How Much Time Do You Need to Set Aside for Photography and/or Videography?

With all the excitement and nerves that come with your wedding day, it’s important to have a plan in place before the ceremony begins. This plan will guide you through the wedding, and will ensure that you can relax and enjoy the day without having to organise as you go. The last thing you want on your special day is to lose track of time, and then rush through the photography process. Our experienced photographers know just how much time each part of the wedding will take to capture. Here is a guide on how much time we suggest you set aside for photographing each part of your special day.

1. The groom’s preparation: 45 minutes to 1 hour

This is the time when we get that perfect tying-the-tie shot—the candid shots of the groom in a freshly pressed shirt, putting on the suit jacket as the finishing touch.

2. The bride’s preparation: 1 hour to 1.5 hour

During this hour, we will get shots of the hair and makeup process, and the first shots of the beautiful dress. These photographs capture all the excitement and bliss in the lead-up to the big day.

3. Photography and/or videography team arrives at the ceremony venue: 30 minutes before the ceremony starts

The photography and/or videography team needs to arrive early to the venue to make sure that they are set up and ready to go before the arrival of the first guest. It is during this time that the team takes photos and/or videos of the setting and decoration of the venue. It’s also helpful for the photographer and/or videographer to get a feel for the venue, and to understand how the guests will move through the space.

4. The entire ceremony

Every wedding is different, and it is up to you to decide how long your ceremony will go for. Our photographers and/or videographers will be there for the entire ceremony, making sure not to miss any special moments that you share with your guests and your spouse-to-be.

5. Group photos with familyand friends: Usually 30 minutes. This depends largely on the number of guests attending.

Leaving enough time for group photos is an important step in making sure that no one is left out. For an average-sized wedding, we recommend leaving half an hour for mingling and group photos straight after your wedding ceremony concludes.

6. Location shooting: The longer, the better

We want to make the most of your chosen wedding venue. For location shots, we recommend setting aside as much time as possible to give you the freedom to be photographed and/or filmed without a constant time pressure. A minimum of 1 hour is recommended.

7. Photography and/or videography team arrives at the reception venue: 30 minutes before the reception starts (the entry of the bridal party)

Once again, the photography and/or videography team needs to arrive early to the reception venue to make sure that they are set up and ready for the entry of the bridal party. The team can take photos and/or videos of the setting and decoration of the reception venue while it is untouched. it’s also important for the photographer and/or videographer to get a feel for the venue, and to understand how the guests will move through the space.
